Town Hall Meeting: Yulee Drive Sidewalk

town-hallJoin us for this Town Hall Meeting to discuss project: Yulee Drive Sidewalk from Central St. to US 19. The sidewalk is approximately 2.8 miles in length. The project design is funded by the Department of Transportation and administered by Citrus County under the Local Agency Program. The County is currently under contract with Cardno-TBE for survey, engineering design and permitting of the sidewalk project. This public meeting is to present the project area and take public comment and input regarding the subject sidewalk.

Wildlife Park to Present Wildlife Ranger Camps June and July

--Camp helps children learn about Florida’s wildlife--homosassa-wildlife-park-logo

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park will offer two weeklong Wildlife Ranger Camps in June and July. The Friends of Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park sponsor the programs. June’s Wildlife Ranger Camp is for children ages 8 and 9 years old, and runs June 17 through June 22. July’s Wildlife Ranger Camp is for children ages 10 through 12, and runs from July 15 through July 20.

Applications for the Wildlife Ranger Camp are available in the park office. Each program is limited to 20 campers and will be filled on a first come basis with preference to those who have never attended before.

Each Wildlife Ranger Camp includes four, half-day camp sessions from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The Friday session starts at 4 p.m. with an overnight stay in the park. A graduation ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The cost of the program is $65 per child and includes a T-shirt and supplies.

Applicants will be asked to write a short essay on an animal that lives in Florida and why you think that animal is important to attach to their application. Parents and guardians may stop by the park office located in the Visitor Center on U.S. 19 to pick up an application. For more information, please call Tricia Fowler at (352) 628-5343, ext. 1002.

Camp topics include mammals, birds, reptiles, manatees, the ocean, sea turtles, and saving energy through alternative sources. Indoor and outdoor activities for children include nature hunts, visiting the wildlife areas in the park and other scientific activities.

The summer camps will take place:
June 17--22, 2013
Monday–Thursday: 9 a.m.–1 p.m.; Friday: 4 p.m. and overnight
Saturday: Graduation at 11 a.m.
and
July 15--20, 2013
Monday–Thursday: 9 a.m.–1 p.m.; Friday: 4 p.m. and overnight
