Pre-GED Tutor Workshop - Make a Difference!

Volunteer-HandsMake a difference and help other adults reach their personal and career goals. Attend our free hands-on workshop on how to be an effective Pre-GED tutor, instructor, or class assistant for the Library system's Pre-GED program. The training will cover various topics, such as: 2014 new GED Exams, literacy facts, classroom management techniques, learner motivation and goal setting, specific Pre-GED curricula, and multiple print and online resources. No prior teaching experience is needed. Please call staff at 352-795-3716 to register.

Become a U.S. Citizen: Naturalization Information

This session will include an overview of the requirements for Naturalization and information about how to file an application for Naturalization. It will also include a “mock” interview which gives the students an idea of what an actual Naturalization interview looks like. In addition, a short video entitled, “A Promise of Freedom” will be shown and a Q & A session will be held.

Citizenship Classes

This seven-week series of Citizenship Classes will teach adult learners the basic knowledge needed to pass the U.S. Naturalization Exam. Topics covered include: American history, the three branches of government, courts and the legal system, and famous Americans. The classes will also focus on speaking, reading, and writing skills. Learners will receive sample test questions and have interview practice.

Become a U.S. Citizen: Immigration 101

citizenship-3This session is an overview of the roles and responsibilities of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. It includes information about the different ways that people come to the United States (non-immigrant vs. immigrant) and how people can obtain immigration benefits. Information about how people can avoid immigration scams will be given and a Q & A session will be held.

Our FREE hands-on personal computer classes will cover mousing, menus, maximizing, minimizing, and more. Computers and materials will be provided.
