Community can help Park collect Gifts from Home
to send to troops
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park will offer free park admission for everyone on Veterans Day November 11, 2013 in honor of veterans.
In addition, the Park and the Friends of Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park are organizing a special community service project for the soldiers in Afghanistan. Area residents and visitors are encouraged to make a difference in a soldier’s life by donating items to Gifts from Home to be boxed for Christmas delivery to soldiers serving in Afghanistan.
Items needed include packaged snack crackers, Slim Jims, packaged nuts, dry (not frosted) Granola bars, cereal bars, and protein bars, Vienna sausages (different kinds), individually wrapped hard candies, drink mixes that can be added to water bottles and Wipes (from baby department) used to wipe sand from soldier’s faces. Please check expiration dates on food items.
Veterans groups will be set up in the Park’s Visitor Center to explain services available for veterans. The Park’s honored guests for the day will be Trevor Joyce and Matt Walters.
Everyone is encouraged to come out and enjoy a day at the Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park and honor our veterans.
