Learn computer skills and applications from the absolute basics to creating and editing digital formats.

Getting Started with Computers
This class will introduce you to the components of a computer, operating systems, and how to use a mouse and keyboard. Focus will be on the Windows XP operating system showing the properties of a window. You will learn to copy and paste from one program to another.Prerequisite: None.

Basic Computer Maintenance
In this class you will learn how to properly set up and maintain your computer. You will learn how to physically keep the equipment clean and create a safe working environment. You willalso learn how to maintain your hard drive and optimize your computer's performance.  Prerequisite: Getting Started with Computers.

Web Browsing: Getting Started
The class will introduce you to fundamental procedures for manipulating information searches on the web—how to locate your browser, start and run a search engine, direct and evaluate information searches, and how to keep the useful information at hand. Prerequisites: Getting Started with Computers, strong keyboard and mouse skills.

This brief class covers the process for setting up a Gmail account. Prerequisite: Web Browsing: Getting Started or equivalent computer skills. Strong keyboard and mouse skills.

Gmail: Getting Started
This class covers the basic of using a Gmail account, including creating and sending messages, receiving messages, attaching files to a message, opening attachments, adding labels, finding messages, adding addresses to the contacts list, and retrieving addresses from the contacts list. Prerequisites: Gmail: Getting an Account or an existing Gmail account. Web Browsing: Getting Started or equivalent computer skills. Strong keyboard and mouse skills.

Computer Safety Online
This class will present an overview of how to protect your computer and yourself while using the Internet. Topics discussed will include antivirus programs, spyware, firewalls, Trojan horses, phishing, email scams, and malware. You will learn how to spot potential problems and how to protect your computer.  Prerequisite: Web Browsing: Getting Started.

This class covers burning music CD’s using Windows Media Player and copying data to CD’s using Windows copy and CD write features. Prerequisite: Getting Started with Computers.

Word: Getting Started
This class introduces Microsoft Word and what can be done with this versatile word processing program. You will learn how to use the Menu and Tool bars, Spell Check, the Help menu, create and save documents, open existing documents, and copy and paste techniques. Prerequisites: Getting Started with Computers or equivalent computer skills, strong keyboard and mouse skills.

Word: Formatting and Styles
Using the basics learned in Word: Getting Started, this class covers the basic style and formatting tools available in Microsoft Word which allow you to create and save endless style variations and control your styles with greater precision. Prerequisite: Word: Getting Started.

This class explores several of the templates that come with Microsoft Word, how to use these to create new documents using the formatting and styles in these templates, and themes which aid in applying styles to your documents. Prerequisite: Word: Formatting & Styles.

GIMP: Digital Image Tricks
GIMP is a freely available open-source application for creating and manipulating digital images. In this class you will learn some basic tasks in GIMP including rotating images, modifying brightness, selecting and copying portions of an image, pasting a copied portion into another image, and adding several special effects. Prerequisite: Advanced computer skills.

Audacity: Digital Audio Tricks
Audacity is a freely available open-source application for creating and manipulating digital audio. In this class you will learn some basic tasks in Audacity including recording, trimming unwanted sections, working with multiple audio tracks, changing volume, and creating a finished audio project. Prerequisite: Advanced computer skills.

Nvu: Web Page Basics
Nvu is a freely available open-source application for creating, editing, publishing and maintaining Web pages. In this class you will learn some basics for creating a Web page, putting text into a Web page, adding style to text, changing foreground and background colors, adding images to a Web page, adding hyperlinks to other Web pages, and saving your page. Prerequisite: Advanced computer skills.

This program will show how to create business cards, flyers, and resumes using Microsoft Office Applications.Prerequisites: Getting Started with Computers, strong keyboard and mouse skills.

This class will cover several online resources for genealogy and family history including AncestryPlus, Cyndi's List, and RootsWeb. Students will learn search tips in conducting genealogy research, as well as where to find various genealogy forms online.

Electronic files contain everything from the commands that make computers run to the information you find and create. Knowing how to find, save, move, share and use these files is a critical skill at all levels of computer use. This class will cover how to create and save files, navigating through the files on your computer, recognizing different types of files, deleting and retrieving files, finding files, and recognizing different storage devices. Prerequisites: Getting Started with Computers class, strong mousing and keyboarding skills.
