eBooks
What
is netLibrary?
It is a comprehensive collection of
electronic books (eBooks) and resource materials available online. Using
netLibrary, you can access the Library System’s eBook collection, which
includes consumer health titles, children’s and young adult reference
titles, computer books, travel guides, career information, literary
criticism, homework aids, and fiction. In addition to the collection of
available copyrighted eBooks, you have access to nearly 4,000 public
domain eBooks, featuring political texts and classics in literature and
history, compliments of netLibrary.
What is
an eBook?
It is an electronic version of a
printed book. An eBook can be viewed online from any computer connected to
the Internet. You can preview eBooks for 15 minutes for quick reference,
or check them out for several hours to read them at your leisure. Because
eBooks are online, they’re available at your convenience — anytime,
anywhere. And you don’t have to worry about returning them; eBooks are
automatically returned at the end of your checkout period.
Creating
a netLibrary Account:
To check out eBooks, you must first
create a user account on a library workstation. Once it is created, you
can use your account to log in from any computer with Internet access.
1.
Using a library computer, go to www.netlibrary.com.
2. Click on “Create an Account.”
3. Enter your identifying information, including user name and email
address. No spaces between first and last name.
4. Click submit.
Note: Creating a new account automatically logs you into netLibrary.
Logging
In:
To check out an eBook, you must
first log in using your netLibrary account.
1.
Click the “Log in” button on the main navigation bar.
2. Enter your user name and password.
3. Click Log in.
You
will then have access to all of the eBooks available in the Citrus County
Library System’s collection.
Performing
a Quick Search:
The search box on the main
navigation bar performs a quick search, allowing you to locate an eBook by
searching full text, keyword, title, author, or subject.
1.
Select an option from the dropdown list on the main navigation bar,
either full text, keyword, title, author, or subject.
2. Enter search term.
Note: To do a phrase search, submit your search in
quotes—for example, “to be or not to be.”
3. Click “GO.” netLibrary
displays the search results.
Finding
an eBook:
The main search screen allows you
to search multiple fields simultaneously, including title, author,
subject, keywords, full text, publisher, publication years, and ISBN. The
more information you enter, the more precise the results of your search
will be.
1.
Enter the search text. Text entered in the Full Text field searches the
full text of all eBooks. Text entered in all other fields will search the
bibliographic records.
2. Select the collections you want to
search.
3. Click “Search.” netLibrary
displays the search results.
Previewing
an eBook:
You may preview an eBook without
logging in to netLibrary. EBooks are viewed in 15-minute intervals. You
will be allowed an additional 15 minutes as long as another library member
has not requested the eBook.
Checking
Out an eBook:
To check out an eBook, you must be
logged into netLibrary. Once an eBook is checked out, you have exclusive
access to the eBook for the check out period. The check out time will
begin automatically when you check out the eBook. The eBook is
automatically checked in when the check out period expires. At the time
you check out the eBook, a status window will display the title of the
eBook and the time remaining before it is automatically returned to
netLibrary.
1.
Locate the eBook you want to check out.
2. Click the eBook title to display the
eBook information page.
3. Click the Check out icon. netLibrary
