January 5-16: MLK Day Healthy Food Drive

food-donate-smThe Nature Coast Volunteer Center
is hosting a Healthy Food Drive
January 5-16, 2015

Our local food pantries often find their stock of non-perishable food items depleted after the holidays. The Nature Coast Volunteer Center and Retired & Senior Volunteer Program is holding a food drive in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., who once asked “What are you doing for others?” Our goal is to help those pantries serve the citizens of Citrus County by providing nutritional food for their families.

MOST NEEDED ITEMS:
√ Peanut Butter
√ Whole Grain Pasta
√ Low Sodium Pasta Sauce
√ Whole Grain Oats and Cereal
√ Brown Rice
√ Canned Tuna & Chicken in water
√ Canned Fruits in natural juices
√ Canned Vegetables in water
√ Canned Soup (low sodium preferred)

Non-perishable food donations will be collected January 5–16, 2015. Our volunteers will then count, sort, and package the food on January 17 for our local food pantries to pick up. Please help us provide for these organizations by placing non-perishable food items in one of the collection boxes set up at the following locations: the Lecanto Government Building, Emergency Operations Center, Citrus County Courthouse, both Tax Collector’s Offices, Citrus County Libraries, the Citrus County Resource Center, and Extension Services.

Hear stories about the fascinating history of Inverness, while experiencing the small town charm of our area. What better way to start the winter season, while the weather is nice and cool, and to provide a great stress releaser just before the holidays, as well. Tour begins at shortly after 10:15 a.m. starting from the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum in downtown Inverness to begin the walk. Reservations only are required. Cost is $5 per person, and $2 per child under 16. All proceeds go directly to the Citrus County Historical Society. Tours will be held once per month on the third Friday of each month through April 2015, and may be increased in frequency each month depending on interest. Group size is a maximum of eight persons per tour, and no more than one child under sixteen per adult, making for a maximum of four children under sixteen per tour. To reserve your place on this first ever tour, please call (352) 341-6428.
