How-to Books for Novice Computer Users

You bought your new computer, now where can you go to learn how to use it? In addition to the classes offered in the Computer labs at the Central Ridge and Homosassa branches, the library offers a compendium of computer how to books.

download2Teach Yourself Visually Series

These books are wonderful for both the visual and the kinesthetic learners. They provide clear, readable visual screen shots which accurately show what the screen should look like if you are doing the exercise correctly.

These books cover operating systems, programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and other non-Microsoft programs. They also cover iPads, iPods, smartphones, and other technologies. They are excellent books for anyone who is just starting out with computers and needs simple easy to understand materials.

downloadThe Dummies Series

These books are intended for the beginning audience, but they sometimes use terms and concepts which the beginner may not know or understand.

These books do explain in a manner easier to understand the more technical O'Reilly computer books; however, in order to really get any use out of them , the reader must already know something about computers, how they work, and have a basic understanding of computer terms.

These books are for the person who already is comfortable using computers and other technologies. They assume a working computer vocabulary and knowledge of computer basics.

These books are a good resource when you already know how to use a program but need to figure out how to do something new. They are an effective resource for learning a newer version of a program that you already know how to use.
