Tai Chi

The low impact Tai Chi classes encourage, share, and enhance the knowledge about health benefits that the ancient art of Tai Chi offers. Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese discipline that involves a continuous series of generally controlled slow movements to improve one’s balance and overall health.

Tai Chi for Seniors: A class that encourages, shares, and enhances the practice and knowledge of the health benefits of the ancient art of Tai Chi. Tai Chi emphasizes slow, simple motions to improve balance and overall health. Because of room size this class is limited to 25 participants.

Pre-GED Math - In this instructor led class, learners will review adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers and fractions, solving word problems, and understanding decimals and percent.

Pre-GED Algebra/Geometry - In this instructor led class, learners will review algebraic concepts that include: signed numbers, solving equations, word problems, exponents, roots, and graphs. Geometric concepts covered in the class include: lines and angles, triangles and quadrangles, and circles and volume.

Pre-GED Language Arts - In this instructor led class, learners will review basic grammar, build vocabulary, improve spelling, and increase reading comprehension.

Pre-GED Essay WritingIn this instructor led class, learners are taught how to write an essay, with a review of grammar, mechanics, and punctuation. The topics covered include: sentences, paragraphs, subject- verb agreement, and verb tenses.

Pre-GED Science  - In this instructor led class learners review the basics of multiple sciences which include: life science, earth science, chemistry, and physics. Throughout the course there is an emphasis on finding main ideas and utilizing context cues to improve reading comprehension of non-fiction texts..

Pre-GED Social Studies In this instructor led class, learners review social studies including: U.S. history, world history, civics, geography, and economics. Throughout the course, there is an emphasis on finding main ideas and utilizing context clues to improve reading comprehension of non-fiction texts.

Can Your Mouse Pass the GED? - This instructor led class focuses on the fact that the 2014 GED is completely computerized. Learners needing hands-on computer skills can practice such topics as: mousing, menus, maximizing, minimizing, maneuvering the online calculator, and more.

Friends of the Homosassa Public Library

2014-ho-folEstablished in 1991, the Friends is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to enhance the materials and services of the Homosassa Public Library through fundraising and donations.

The Friends raise and give money to support classes and events at the Homosassa Library, as well as to enhance the Library's collection. 

The all-volunteer association has five (5) membership classes: individual, family, contributing, sponsor, and benefactor.

The Board meets monthly, excluding June and July. An annual General Membership Meeting is held every February for the purpose of electing officers (members only voting). The Public is cordially invited to attend the event, where a special speaker and refreshments are provided. New Board of Director volunteers are always welcomed.

The Friends hold two major fundraising events each year in the spring and fall to support the Homosassa Library. Membership dues and donations also help meet fundraising goals.

Please call Nancy Everett @ 352-382-2440 for membership information. Pick up the newsletter at the Library. Drop your book donations at the Homosassa Library or call Nancy for pick-up. We welcome your book donations starting in September for the Fall Sale and encourage volunteers interested in helping out at the sale. We have fun, work a little, and give a lot back to our beautiful Homosassa Library. Come join us!
